ELECOM's semi-solid mobile battery 'DE-C86-10000' review: Achieves high portability and safety by adopting semi-solid lithium-ion batteries.

Many mobile batteries use 'lithium-ion batteries with liquid electrolytes,' which can raise safety concerns such as overheating and fire hazards. Elecom's mobile battery ' DE-C86-10000 ' uses a '

semi-solid lithium-ion battery ' with a gel-like electrolyte, making it a next-generation battery with an excellent balance of safety, portability, long lifespan, and temperature range. I was able to borrow the DE-C86-10000 from Elecom, so I tried it out.

The DE-C86-10000's packaging looks like this.

When I opened the box, a black box came out from inside.

The black box contains the DE-C86-10000 unit, a USB Type-C cable, and an instruction manual.

The DE-C86-10000 comes in four colors: black, blue, pink, and white, and we will be using the pink version.

The DE-C86-10000 measures approximately 114.6mm in height and 70mm in width. Here's a comparison with the iPhone 16, which measures 147.6mm in height and 71.6mm in width.

The DE-C86-10000 is approximately 19mm thick. Here's how it compares to the iPhone 16, which is 7.8mm thick:

The actual weight of the DE-C86-10000 is 215g.

The DE-C86-10000 has a display on the top front.

The power button is on the right side.

There is nothing on the left side.

The top of the device has two USB Type-C ports and one USB Type-A port. Both USB Type-C ports have a rated input voltage of 5V/9V/12V/15V/20V and a current of 3A/3A/2.91A/2.33A/1.75A (maximum 35W). The output is a maximum of 35W for the USB Type-C ports and a maximum of 22.5W for the USB Type-A port, with a total maximum of 20W when using multiple ports simultaneously.

Input/output information was printed on the bottom.

This is what the back looks like.

Turn it on by pressing the power button on the right side. The button doesn't click and feels a bit difficult to press, but that means it's less likely to turn on accidentally in your bag.

When the power was turned on, the display lit up. The battery level was shown as '80%'.

Additionally, pressing the power button twice in quick succession will display a green dot on the screen. This indicates 'low current mode,' which allows you to charge small electronic devices with low charging currents, such as wireless earphones, with the optimal current.

You can charge it simply by connecting it with a USB cable. Both USB Type-C ports can be used for charging and power supply. When the DE-C86-10000 is fully charged, it can charge an 1800mAh smartphone approximately 2.9 times, an iPad approximately 0.7 times, and a MacBook Air approximately 0.4 times.

To charge the DE-C86-10000, simply connect it to a power source using a USB charging adapter or similar device. You can use either of the two USB Type-C ports for charging. It takes approximately 2 hours to charge the DE-C86-10000 to 100%. Additionally, if you connect a smartphone or other device to the DE-C86-10000 while it is charging, the smartphone will be powered via pass-through charging.

The output power when charging an iPhone 16 with the included USB Type-C cable was measured using the USB tester '

Power-Z KM003C '. When an iPhone 16 with approximately 40% battery remaining was connected, it output power of around 19-20W.

Upon checking the supported standards for the USB Type-C port, it was displayed as supporting USB PD 3.0.

The DE-C86-10000 features a relatively safe design thanks to its semi-solid lithium-ion battery, and boasts excellent durability with approximately 2000 rechargeable cycles. Furthermore, the display includes a 'Health Monitor' function that indicates when it's time to replace the device. It lights up blue when the battery performance gradually deteriorates with repeated use, and orange when the battery performance drops significantly, making it easier to consider replacement for safer and more comfortable use.

The DE-C86-10000 is priced at 8480 yen (tax included) at ELECOM's official shop .
