On February 17th (local time), Prime Minister Sanchez held a cabinet meeting and announced that he had requested an investigation into X, Meta, and TikTok, pursuant to Article 8 of the Organic Law of the Public Prosecutor's Office, for the 'possibility of creating and disseminating child pornography through AI.' In a post to X, the Prime Minister expressed his strong determination, saying, 'These platforms are violating the mental health, dignity, and rights of our children. As a country, we cannot tolerate this. We must put an end to the illegal activities of these giant corporations.'

Minister of Youth and Children, Cila Rego, also reported on the initiative on her Bluesky account, saying, 'We are taking another step to ensure children's rights on social media.'

'Protecting children's rights is incompatible with deregulating the internet. We will not allow large multinational corporations to make billions of dollars at the expense of child exploitation and the freedom of girls and boys,' Rego said.

One in five young people in Spain has been a victim of AI-generated fake pornography as a minor.

Indonesia temporarily blocked access to Grok in January 2026 over the use of AI to generate non-consensual sexual content, followed by Malaysia, which also blocked access to Grok , and UK regulators have launched a formal investigation .
