Elon Musk's conflict with Brazil's Supreme Court intensifies as Starlink's bank accounts are frozen to allow X to pay fines
The conflict between Elon Musk and Judge Alexandre de Moraes of the Brazilian Supreme Court, which has been ongoing since April 2024, has intensified, with Musk closing his Brazilian offices, while Judge Moraes declared that 'if X does not appoint legal representatives, we will block X in Brazil.' In addition, the bank account of Starlink, the satellite communication service of SpaceX, which Musk represents, has been frozen in order to force X to pay the fine imposed on it.

Judge Moraes, a Brazilian Supreme Court judge who works on online misinformation, ordered X to block certain accounts in April 2024. X appealed the decision.

This prompted a legal battle between Judge Moraes, X, and X's owner, Mr. Musk, and X eventually decided to close its Brazilian operations for the safety of its employees, claiming that Judge Moraes had threatened its legal representative in Brazil with arrest if the company did not comply with the censorship.
In response to X's move, Judge Moraes summoned Elon Musk on August 28, 2024 local time and ordered him to appoint legal representatives for X in Brazil within 24 hours.

The summons was published on the Supreme Court's official website and also posted as a reply to a post by X alleging that Judge Moraes had threatened him.

In the end, X's side did not appoint legal representatives within 24 hours, and posted, 'I expect to be shut down soon simply for refusing to comply with Judge Moraes' unlawful orders to allow me to censor my political opponents, including a duly elected senator and a 16-year-old girl.'
