Introducing the all new Mecha Comet, live on Kickstarter - YouTube

The Mecha Comet's dimensions and appearance are as follows: 155mm high x 73mm wide x 14mm thick, and weighs 225g. It features a 4.0 AMOLED display (organic light-emitting diode (EL) display) with a brightness of 500 nits, which is relatively easy to see outdoors. Its screen density is 441ppi, comparable to a high-end smartphone, and it can display 16.7 million colors with high precision.

The Mecha Comet is powered by either the i.MX 95 (1.8GHz, 6-core, Cortex A55) or i.MX 8M (1.8GHz, 4-core, Cortex A53) processor. RAM options include 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB, and storage options include 64GB and 128GB.

The battery is 4100mAh and can last up to 8 days on standby or sleep mode, 18 hours of continuous operation with the display off, 7 hours with the display on, and 4 hours of continuous playback of streaming video content.

The greatest feature of Mecha Comet is its high degree of customizability. The bottom of the Mecha Comet's body is magnetically detachable, making it easy to remove, and various modules can be connected to suit various applications, such as keyboards, gamepads, communication modules, and AI accelerators. All Mecha Comet extensions are open hardware, and

the project will provide all the resources necessary to build your own extensions.

The device also runs Mechanix OS (Linux 6.12), an operating system designed for its unique form factor. It comes with essential native apps like Files, Camera, Music, and Notes. It features a single 8MP camera with autofocus, two digital microphones, and HD speakers. It also comes with one HDMI port and two USB-C ports.

According to the site, 'Mecha Comet aims to build an open-source, comprehensive computing platform that encourages innovation and exploration,' and is designed to be easy to modify and repair. Spare parts and repair

instructions are provided in detail, and the project team states that 'even a 10-year-old child can do the repairs.'

The Mecha Comet can be ordered on Kickstarter. The minimum amount with rewards is $209 (approximately ¥30,000) for the i.MX 8M and $269 (approximately ¥40,000) for the i.MX 95. The deadline is February 24, 2026, but at the time of writing, the goal of $50,000 (approximately ¥7.6 million) has been exceeded, with $685,104 (approximately ¥100 million) raised.
