Amazon layoffs: 16,000 jobs to be cut in latest anti-bureaucracy push
Amazon is working to strengthen its organization by reducing layers within the organization, clarifying responsibilities, and eliminating bureaucracy, and in October 2025, it laid off 14,000 employees in its game development division, Amazon Game Studios, which has been developing MMORPGs and AAA titles.

According to Beth Galetti, senior vice president of human resources and technology at Amazon, additional restructuring was carried out for some teams that had not yet been strengthened, resulting in layoffs of 16,000 people.
Of the employees affected, most in the U.S. will have a 90-day grace period to identify reassignment options. Outside the U.S., the grace period varies based on country and region requirements.
If you are unable to find a new role within Amazon during the grace period, or if you choose to leave, we will provide you with transition assistance, including severance pay, health insurance benefits (if applicable), and outplacement services.
The two large-scale layoffs totaled 30,000 people, which was in line with what was planned as of October 2025.

CEO Andy Jassy wants to reset Amazon's corporate culture so that it can operate like 'the world's biggest startup,' and has made it clear that he plans to increase investments in AI and data centers.
