Apple Intelligence is designed to use third-party AI in addition to local AI, and at the time of writing, ChatGPT can be used for operations such as 'asking Siri difficult questions' and 'looking into the details of what is visible in the camera.'

Apple has long been positive about adopting Gemini, and immediately after the announcement of Apple Intelligence on June 11, 2024, Craig Federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, stated , 'In the future, we will integrate various AI models, such as Google's Gemini, with Apple products.' Google CEO Sundar Pichai also stated in May 2025, 'Tim Cook is seeking to understand Google's AI technology evolution plans and roadmap, and as part of that, we have discussed the distribution of the Gemini app.'

On January 13, 2026 (Japan time), Google announced that it had signed a multi-year agreement with Apple. Under this agreement, the next-generation Apple Intelligence will be developed based on Gemini, and Gemini will also be incorporated into the next-generation Siri, scheduled for release in 2026. Furthermore, Apple has developed a privacy-focused cloud computing technology called ' Private Cloud Compute ' to provide advanced AI functions while protecting user privacy. The agreement also clearly states that Gemini, which will be incorporated into Apple Intelligence, will run on Private Cloud Compute.

In response to Apple and Google's announcement, Elon Musk, CEO of Grok's xAI, said in a post, 'Given Google's ownership of Android and Chrome, this seems like an unfair concentration of power.'
