There have been a series of incidents of people using the AI Grok to sexualize images of others on Twitter (formerly known as X). Several investigations have pointed out that Grok is generating an unprecedented amount of sexually explicit images.

Since around December 2025, there have been a series of cases where images of other people have been edited without permission using Grok on X. In particular, cases of people appearing in images being altered to appear sexually explicit have become prominent, resulting in an increase in actual sexual assaults. This issue has become a global problem, and ministries and agencies in various countries have launched investigations.

In X, users can launch Grok's image editing feature with a single button, and can have Grok generate images by replying to a post containing an image with the string '@grok' and a prompt. As a result, Grok accounts ' media sections are now filled with Grok-generated images. Research firm Copyleaks found that when they examined Grok accounts' media sections, they found that there was approximately one non-consensual sexual image per minute.

According to a study by Genevieve Oh, a social media and deepfake researcher featured by Bloomberg, Grok generated approximately 6,700 sexually explicit images per hour, with 85% of the images containing sexual content.

The victims are not only young people or those who rely on their looks as a selling point, but also public figures.

In many countries and regions, it is illegal to edit or sexually alter other people's images and then publish them. The official X account warned, 'X will take action against posts containing illegal content (including child sexual abuse material), including deleting posts and permanently suspending accounts, and will also cooperate with government and law enforcement agencies.' However, the creation of sexually explicit images shows no signs of stopping.
