GOG is a 'DRM (Digital Rights Management)-free' game sales platform. CD Projekt, the game company behind the Witcher series, operated GOG through its subsidiary GOG sp. z oo. Kiciński contributed to the launch of both companies.
On December 29, 2025, it was revealed that Kiciński personally acquired 100% of GOG sp. z oo's shares for 90.7 million Polish złoty (approximately 4 billion yen).
While this acquisition will result in a change in ownership for GOG, the company's management policy will remain unchanged, and the company will continue to uphold its original philosophy of 'once purchased, a game belongs to the player forever.'

GOG explains that this acquisition is in line with CD Projekt's strategy of 'committing itself to developing the highest quality RPGs and providing entertainment based on its own brands to fans,' and that it will allow CD Projekt to focus on this strategy, while GOG will be able to pursue its own philosophy with stronger support.
GOG also stated, 'GOG has been built on strong values and clear principles: bringing classic games back to players and ensuring that once you buy, the games you own are truly yours, forever. In a market dominated by required clients and closed ecosystems, this philosophy is more important than ever. This new chapter of acquisitions further strengthens this vision. We want to do more to preserve more of the classics of the past, celebrate outstanding games, and shape the classic games of tomorrow, including new releases with a true retro spirit.'

'GOG has been operating independently for a long time, but it is now in the hands of trusted management,' said Michał Nowakowski, co-CEO of CD Projekt. 'With the support of Kiciński, one of GOG's co-founders, I'm confident that GOG's future will be filled with great projects and success. This transition is the right time as we focus on expanding our franchises with an ambitious development roadmap and high-quality new products.'
'CD Projekt and GOG share common roots and values: freedom, independence, and true ownership. I'm confident that CD Projekt will continue to support GOG's services with its outstanding portfolio of AAA titles,' Kiciński said.
