'Open Source Ecology' develops open source industrial machinery that can be manufactured for free and at low cost, and shares blueprints online

The industrial machinery that powers modern society is expensive and difficult for individuals or small communities to obtain. Project Open Source Ecology is addressing this issue by providing free blueprints for industrial machinery. It offers blueprints for building 50 types of machinery essential to modern civilization, including tractors, brick-making machines, and wind turbines, at a fraction of the cost of commercially available products.

◆ Global recognition from TED Talk in 2011
In April 2011, Jakubowski gave a TED talk titled ' Open-sourced blueprints for civilization ,' introducing the concept of the Global Village Construction Set to the world. In this talk, he reported on his efforts to develop open-source blueprints for 50 essential agricultural and industrial tools, creating a 'civilization starter kit' that anyone could inexpensively manufacture from scratch. He was named a TED Senior Fellow in 2012, a Shuttleworth Foundation Fellow in 2013, and a White House Change Champion in 2013. The Global Village Construction Set was also selected as one of Time magazine 's 50 Greatest Inventions of 2012 .

What is the Global Village Construction Set?
The Global Village Construction Set (GVCS) is a set of 50 industrial machines necessary for building a small, sustainable civilization. Anyone can easily and cost-effectively manufacture these machines, and each machine complements the others. For example, components from a manufacturing construction set can be used to build other machines. The project's goal is to design for life and low maintenance, requiring only a few hours of maintenance per year. Since building the first compressed earth block machine in 2007, the project has made steady progress, and in 2012, it successfully manufactured a compressed earth block machine in a single day. In 2013, a comfortable 'microhouse' was built using a tractor, block machine, and soil grinder.

◆Overwhelming cost performance
The greatest feature of the open source ecology is that it can significantly reduce costs through simple, modular, and scalable design.

◆ Aiming to realize an open source economy
The project's goal is to demonstrate a reproducible, open-source social production model, called the 'Learning Factor-e Model,' consisting of the following major steps: Proof of Concept, First Prototype, Full Documentation, Working Prototype, and Open Enterprise Model.
◆ Nurturing the next generation with Future Builders Academy
Open Source Ecology also offers an educational program called the Future Builders Academy , which aims to provide systems learning including literacy, numeracy, speaking, emotional literacy, and moral literacy.
◆Development at Factor e Farm
GVCS is being developed at Factor e Farm in rural Missouri. In addition to on-site development, we also conduct remote development through design sprints , university collaborations, and immersion workshops.
