On December 1, 2025, the Seoul Economic Daily reported, 'According to industry sources, Samsung's semiconductor division recently discussed a long-term supply of mobile DRAM chips for more than a year with Samsung's mobile device division, but maintained the previous three-month quarterly contract. However, a broad agreement was reached on the minimum supply volume for 2026, avoiding the worst-case scenario of the mobile device division being unable to secure DRAM.'
SamMobile, a Samsung-focused media outlet, reported, citing a report from the Seoul Economic Daily, that Samsung's semiconductor division rejected a deal proposal from Samsung's mobile device division. 'If the deal had gone through, Samsung's semiconductor division would have supplied DRAM chips for Galaxy smartphones for at least a year, but in order to maximize profits, Samsung rejected this long-term supply contract,' the report said.
However, a Samsung spokesperson responded to these reports, saying, 'Reports that our semiconductor division rejected a specific request are untrue. We work closely with customers around the world to address industry needs.'

As more and more AI-related services are launched, the demand for storage and memory required to run AI is skyrocketing. OpenAI announced a partnership with Samsung and the SK Group on October 1, 2025, to secure a monthly supply of up to 900,000 DRAM wafers. Tom's Hardware, a leading international media outlet, even reported that 'Samsung's next-generation V9 NAND flash memory is already fully booked even before its release.'
As a result of these factors, it is predicted that prices for consumer SSDs and memory will continue to rise.

There is also a view that DRAM prices are being manipulated.
Industry companies blame rising DRAM prices on AI demand, but some see price manipulation as a real problem.
