What is 'Dor Brothers,' a video production studio that generates videos using AI tools and has a total of over 100 million views?

At the time of writing, advances in generative AI technology have made it possible to generate smooth videos based on text and images. The New York Times reports on Dor Brothers , a video production studio that uses only AI tools to create videos that have garnered over 100 million views online.

The AI-generated video created by Dor Brothers with the most views on YouTube is 'The Drill,' shown below.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris drinking wine from a bottle while driving a car. While it's not a deepfake that's easily mistaken for the real thing, it's immediately clear from the screen that it's an AI-generated video.

There are also a lot of bottles lying around on the passenger seat.

In recent years, such AI-generated videos have been posted in large numbers on social media and video platforms, often mocked as 'AI slop' due to their low quality. However, Dor Brothers, an AI video production studio consisting of studio director Yonatan Dor (28), four full-time staff members, and numerous freelancers, plans to exceed $1 million (approximately 148 million yen) in revenue by 2024, including AI-related consulting work.

The New York Times points out that creators of AI-generated videos aim to eliminate the need for cameramen, set designers, makeup artists, and even actors, who were once essential to film and television production. 'Things are clearly changing. We as a species have to adapt to the technology,' Doll said in an interview. 'The only thing that matters is creative or unique ideas and unique creators. The rest will become irrelevant.'

Doll originally produced films the old-fashioned way, using a multi-person film crew and a high budget. However, in early 2022, he encountered an early AI image generation tool and became fascinated with it, spending 8 to 12 hours a day to generate and sell AI images. Later, following the emergence of tools that generate AI videos from text and images, he launched an AI video production studio.

At Dor Brothers, they first come up with a video concept through brainstorming or someone's inspiration, then use a chatbot like ChatGPT to generate video prompts. They sift through the various ideas the AI chatbot suggests, choose their favorite prompts, and feed them into AI video generation tools like Runway or Veo 3 , where they fine-tune the resulting video. According to Dor, they may try hundreds of versions before finalizing the video.

Doll predicts that in the near future, it will be possible to upload specific characters with fixed voices, faces, and costumes into AI video generation tools, allowing the same characters to appear consistently in various scenes. 'This way, each time you generate a character, they'll sound similar, they'll look similar, and we'll really start competing with Hollywood,' Doll argued.
