TP-Link is widely known as a manufacturer of wireless LAN-related equipment such as wireless LAN routers and wireless LAN repeaters , and reigns as the world's top manufacturer in the market. In recent years, the company has also been focusing on selling security cameras , and it has been revealed that 65.1% of PC cameras sold in Japan in 2024 were made by TP-Link .
In the United States, TP-Link products are also used within the military. However, since TP-Link is headquartered in China, there are concerns in the United States about 'national security risks,' and in August 2024, Republican and Democratic lawmakers submitted a letter to the then Secretary of Commerce requesting an investigation into TP-Link. Then, in December 2024, it was reported that the Department of Defense, Department of Justice, Department of Commerce, and others were conducting investigations into TP-Link.

TP-Link was a China-based company, but in 2022, TP-Link Corporation, which is responsible for sales outside of China, was spun off from TP-LINK Technologies, which is based in China. In addition, in May 2024, TP-Link Corporation transitioned to a two-headquarters structure with TP-Link Global (now TP-Link Systems), which conducts research and development, and TP-Link Corporation, whose main business is operations management. TP-Link Systems is based in the United States, and TP-Link Corporation is based in Singapore.

In response to reports in December 2024 that 'US government agencies have begun an investigation into TP-Link,' TP-Link Systems issued a statement saying, 'We are not affiliated with China-based TP-LINK Technologies, and our company and its subsidiaries do not sell in mainland China,' and 'The Chinese government does not have access to the design or manufacturing of our routers and other equipment,' emphasizing that TP-Link in the US and TP-Link in China are separate entities.

However, Bloomberg, an overseas media outlet, pointed out that TP-Link Systems continues to rely on China for much of its business even after the spin-off. The most notable example of this dependency on China is that the company continues to incorporate the results of Shenzhen Lianzhou International Technology, a technology development company based in Shenzhen and supported by the Chinese government, into its products.
TP-Link Systems CEO Jeffrey Chao told Bloomberg, 'I know the U.S.-China relationship is complicated. I chose America. We no longer partner with Chinese companies,' again denying any ties to China.
