Technology media TechCrunch used multiple AI image generation tools, including Google's Gemini, xAI's Grok, and Playground.ai, to find out which AI could generate the most Studio Ghibli-like images. TechCrunch claims that 'the results showed that OpenAI's new image generator can most accurately reproduce the Studio Ghibli style.'

In addition, various painting styles are reproduced using '4o Image Generation'.

TechCrunch reports, 'OpenAI and Google's latest AI makes it easier than ever to recreate the style of copyrighted works by simply entering a text prompt. These new AI image generation capabilities reignite the concerns that underlie several lawsuits against developers of generative AI models. If these companies are training their AI on copyrighted works, are they violating copyright law?'

Evan Brown, an intellectual property lawyer at the law firm, points out that AI features like 4o Image Generation exist in a legal gray area. 'Art style is not explicitly protected by copyright, so OpenAI would not be in violation of the law if it could generate Studio Ghibli-style images,' he said.

However, Brown pointed out that 'it's entirely possible that OpenAI trained its AI model on Studio Ghibli works,' and that 'the courts have yet to rule on whether training an AI model on copyrighted works constitutes fair use.'

In addition, OpenAI collects all kinds of information from the Internet and uses it to train AI, but it has been sued by the New York Times and others for copyright infringement.
