Appearing on NBC's The Tonight Show in February 2025, Gates said, 'There are certainly great doctors and great teachers and other human specialists that we still rely on, and expertise is still rare right now. But with AI, in the next 10 years, medical advisors and private tutors and the like will become commonplace for free.' He predicted that knowledge that was previously only available from formally educated people will become available for free.

'However, there are some jobs that will never be replaced by AI -- for example, no one wants to see a machine play baseball,' Gates said. 'When it comes to making things, moving things, growing food, over time, AI will solve those jobs.'

'AI will begin to impact most of our lives, from drug selection to diagnosis to tutoring, and the technology to do so will advance rapidly,' Gates said in a past interview. 'The benefits that AI can bring to humanity are numerous, including breakthrough cures for deadly diseases, innovative solutions to climate change, and quality education for all.'

CNBC, a news site under NBC, said, 'There is a lot of debate about the future that AI will bring. Some experts say that AI will not completely replace humans, but will help humans work more efficiently, spur economic growth and create more jobs. Others, like Microsoft's AI chief Mustafa Suleiman, are concerned that if technology continues to advance over the next few years, it will change the face of most jobs in almost every industry, causing great instability in the workforce.' He pointed out that AI has both good and bad sides.

Regarding concerns about AI, Gates said, 'AI programs are prone to errors and can lead to the spread of hoaxes online.'

Gates further commented on the future of AI, saying, 'If I had to start a new business from scratch today, I would start an AI-centric startup. Anyone with the money can start a new AI company with just a little idea. I encourage young people at Microsoft, OpenAI, and everywhere else, saying, 'You're coming at this problem with a fresher perspective than I am,'' he said, optimistically predicting that AI will continue to develop in the future.
