It has been pointed out that the next 'iPhone 17 Air' was finally considering a design to eliminate the charging port

The 'iPhone 17 series,' expected to be released in 2025, is expected to include a model that is thinner than other models, like the 'MacBook Air.' Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg reporter familiar with Apple products, reported that the so-called 'iPhone 17 Air' will eliminate the charging port and is considering a complete switch to wireless charging.

Gurman, who predicted the release of a thin model and named it the 'iPhone 17 Air,' said that this model will be positioned between the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro. In particular, the 'thinness' of the body will be a feature, and although it is unclear how thin it will be, it is expected to be about 2 to 3 mm thinner than other models.
The obstacles to thinning include the SIM tray and USB Type-C port, but a model that completely eliminates the SIM tray and is dedicated to eSIM is being developed for the U.S. Garman points out that a proposal to 'completely eliminate' the remaining USB Type-C was also being considered.
Of course, removing the USB Type-C port would mean that wired charging and data transfer would no longer be possible, but Garman said, 'iPhone users already do a lot of things wirelessly, like charging and connecting to their cars, so the world is ready for the change to wireless.'
However, the proposal to abolish the USB Type-C port was not actually adopted. This was due to concerns that it would cause further resentment from the European Union , which switched iPhone ports from Lightning to USB Type-C. Above all, it could be controversial among ordinary users.

Other features of the iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to retain the USB Type-C port, include a roughly 6.6-inch screen, slim bezels like the iPhone 16 Pro, and a standard-sized Dynamic Island.
Dummy models have also been leaked recently, and it has been pointed out that the iPhone 17 Air is 5.65mm thick, more than 2mm thinner than the iPhone 17, which is 7.96mm thick.

Gurman said, 'The iPhone 17 Air will also have expanded features like camera control buttons. And despite being much thinner than other models, the model will have the same battery life as the current iPhones. There will be a single 48-megapixel camera on the back, which is the same approach as the iPhone 16e. It may also feature Samsung's own chip, the C1, which was first featured in the iPhone 16e. This chip will be more power efficient than the Qualcomm chip and will help achieve the thin design of the Air models.'
