A quick photo review of the MacBook Air with M4 and less than 170,000 yen tax included

The MacBook Air equipped with the M4 chip was

announced on March 5, 2025, and appeared in stores on Wednesday, March 12. I was curious about what the new generation MacBook Air, which is equipped with the M4 chip to improve performance while keeping the price the same, would be like, so I first checked out its appearance.

The MacBook Air box looks like this.

The MacBook Air I purchased this time is a 13-inch model in the new sky blue color, with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage. The M4 is equipped with a 10-core CPU and 8-core GPU.

When you open the box, the MacBook Air itself appears.

After removing the packaging, you can see the Apple logo in the center of the top surface with a mirror finish.

The MacBook Air is 30.4cm wide and 21.5cm high, which is almost the same size as an A4 sheet of paper. Below is a side-by-side comparison with the iPhone 16, which has a long side of 147.6mm.

There are four round rubber feet on the back and screws on the outside.

Engraved in the center of the back were 'Designed by Apple in California,' the model number, 'Assembled in China,' and the serial number.

The actual weight of the main unit was measured at 1.25 kg.

There is a 3.5mm headphone jack on the right side. The thickness is 1.13cm.

Front

On the left side there is a MagSafe 3 charging port and two USB-C ports.

Both USB-C ports support DisplayPort, Thunderbolt 4 (up to 40Gb/s), and USB 4 (up to 40Gb/s).

The hinge part on the back looks like this.

When I opened the display it automatically powered on.

The display's opening angle is measured at approximately 135 degrees.

It comes with a JIS-compliant Magic Keyboard with built-in backlight and a pressure-sensitive touch trackpad.

There is a built-in Touch ID key in the upper right corner of the keyboard.

The actual key pitch is 19mm.

The actual keystroke was measured to be about 1mm.

The display is a 13.6-inch (diagonal) Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2560 x 1664 pixels and a brightness of 500 nits.

The actual width of the bezel on the top, bottom, left and right sides is approximately 5mm.

There's a notch at the top of the display housing the 12MP center frame camera.

Also included in the MacBook Air is a 30W USB-C power adapter.

Outputs are 20.0V/1.5A, 15.0V/2.0A, 9.0V/3.0A, and 5.0V/3.0A.

2m long USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable

The 'Designed by Apple in California' envelope contained a quick start guide and instructions, but no sticker.

It seems that the configuration and contents of the MacBook Air are slightly different depending on the M4. We plan to check the performance together with the 10-core CPU + 10-core GPU MacBook Air that will arrive at a later date, so please look forward to it.
