'Apple's thinnest ever' M4-equipped iPad Pro 11-inch and 13-inch models unboxing ceremony and appearance review

The iPad Pro (2024) , the top model of the iPad series, was released on May 15, 2024. At the new product launch event held on May 7 of the same year, the GIGAZINE editorial department was able to get hold of the actual iPad Pro (2024), which was advertised as the 'thinnest Apple product in history' and 'equipped with an M4 chip,' so first of all, we took a close look at its appearance.

I purchased the 11-inch and 13-inch models of the iPad Pro (2024).

◆iPad Pro (2024) 11-inch model
First, let's open the 11-inch model. The model I purchased this time was the Wi-Fi model with 1TB storage and silver body color.

Peel off the sealing sticker on the back of the box.

When I opened the lid, the iPad Pro itself was wrapped in wrapping paper and placed inside the box.

Check out the iPad Pro. Its dimensions are 249.7mm x 177.5mm.

The back looks like this.

The camera module houses a single 12MP wide-angle main camera, an adaptive True Tone flash, a microphone, and various sensors.

The Apple logo on the back is made of copper to dissipate heat.

At the bottom of the back are the words 'iPad Pro' and the Smart Connector terminal.

There is a speaker grill on the bottom and a USB-C port in the center. It is 5.3mm thick.

On the right side are the volume control buttons and a magnetic connector.

The left side looks like this.

There is also a pair of speaker grilles on the top, and the hole in the center is a microphone.

The actual weight of the main unit was 442g.

In addition to the device itself, the box also contained a paper case with the words 'Designed by Apple in California' written on it.

Inside the paper case is a quick start guide and instructions.

Additionally, underneath the paper case was a power adapter and a USB-C charging cable.

The power adapter output is 20W, 5V=3A or 9V=2.22A.

◆iPad Pro (2024) 13-inch model
Next, I will open the 13-inch model. The model I purchased is the Wi-Fi + Cellular model, with 256GB storage and space black body color.

Peel off the sealing seal.

The main body appears wrapped in wrapping paper.

The size of the 13-inch model is 281.6mm in height and 215.5mm in width.

The back looks like this.

The camera module is the same as the 11-inch model.

Copper Apple logo

At the bottom of the back is the iPad Pro name and the Smart Connector terminal.

There are a pair of speaker grilles and a USB-C port on the bottom. The device is 5.1mm thick.

On the right side are the volume control buttons and the magnetic connector.

The left side

On the top there are a pair of speaker grilles and a microphone hole.

The actual weight of the main unit was 584g.

In addition to the main unit, the box contained a paper case with the words 'Designed by Apple in California' written on it.

Inside the paper case is a quick start guide and instructions.

Power adapter and USB-C charging cable. If the main body color is space black, the USB-C charging cable is black.

The power adapter output is 20W, 5V=3A or 9V=2.22A.

◆11-inch and 13-inch models lined up
The 11-inch model (left) and the 13-inch model (right) are compared in size.

The thickness of the 11-inch model is 5.3 mm, while the 13-inch model is 5.1 mm. When you line them up, the 11-inch model (left) looks slightly thicker.

The 13-inch iPad Pro model is said to be the 'thinnest Apple product ever,' and at the event on May 7, it was touted as being 'thinner than

the iPod nano that came out in 2008.' Unfortunately, I didn't have an iPod nano on hand, but when you put it next to the 7.8mm thick iPhone 15 (far left), you can see just how thin it is.

We've lined up the 11-inch

Google Pixel Tablet (far left) and two iPad Pro models. When comparing the 11-inch Google Pixel Tablet and the 11-inch iPad Pro, you can see that the iPad Pro is slightly smaller in size.

The Google Pixel Tablet is 8.1mm thick, while the 11-inch iPad Pro is 5.3mm thick, so the 11-inch iPad Pro is significantly thinner. The Google Pixel Tablet weighs 489g, while the 11-inch iPad Pro is 442g, so even though they have the same display size, the iPad Pro is lighter.

◆Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro (2024)
I also purchased a Magic Keyboard for the 13-inch iPad Pro. I chose the black color to match the iPad Pro body.

The Magic Keyboard can also be used as a case.

The keyboard and trackpad are mounted on the inside of the cover.

The keyboard layout looks like this. The palm rest around the keyboard and next to the trackpad are made of aluminum.

Left side. The Magic Keyboard hinge opens to an angle of about 90 degrees.

In addition, the part that holds the iPad Pro can be bent at about 45 degrees. You can adjust the angle of the iPad Pro freely, and the bend is smooth, but the iPad Pro does not wobble.

There is a USB-C port on the left side of the hinge.

The front side looks like this.

right side

The back side looks like this, and there are no anti-slip or height-adjustable feet.

When you actually attach the 13-inch iPad Pro to the case, it looks like this. The Smart Connector and Magic Keyboard are firmly attached by magnets, so they won't come off unless you apply a lot of force.

When we measured the weight of the 13-inch iPad Pro with the Magic Keyboard attached, it was 1,239g.

◆Apple Pencil Pro
Also,

the Apple Pencil Pro was released at the same time as the iPad Pro (2024), so I purchased them both at the same time.

The main body looks like this. It looks almost the same as

the second generation Apple Pencil .

The Apple logo and 'Pencil Pro' were written on the bottom of the device.

The actual weight is 19g.
