Apple has announced a new model of the MacBook Air on March 5, 2025. The new model will feature the M4 chip, which will improve performance while keeping the price the same. At the time of writing, pre-orders are being accepted and the model is scheduled to be released on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

The new MacBook Air is said to be able to maintain battery life for up to 18 hours while still delivering the performance of the M4 chip. The M4 chip is equipped with a 10-core CPU and up to 10-core GPU, which is up to twice as fast as the M1 model released in 2020, making it easier to use in everyday situations and perform intensive tasks such as photo and video editing.
The M4 chip still has the Neural Engine, which provides a powerful boost to AI-based tasks such as automatic photo correction and background noise removal from videos. It is said to be up to three times faster than the M1-equipped model.

The new model comes with 16GB of unified memory as standard and up to 32GB, and also supports Apple Intelligence, which was available on the previous model. ChatGPT has been seamlessly integrated into the writing tool and Siri, allowing users to use ChatGPT to get their work done quickly and easily.

Many of the generative models that power Apple Intelligence run on-device, keeping user data to a minimum. Tasks that require access to larger models use models from the cloud, but Apple does not store or share user data. Even when using ChatGPT, OpenAI does not store requests.
There's also a 12MP camera with
Desk View , which lets you see your face and your desk at the same time, making video calls even more engaging when you're showing off your latest DIY project or presenting a prototype at work, Apple said.

In addition to the built-in Liquid Retina display, you can also use up to two 6K external displays.

As before, two models, 13 inches and 15 inches, will be released. Both are less than 1.2 cm thick and easy to carry. In addition to the traditional 'Midnight', 'Starlight', and 'Silver', a pale blue 'Sky Blue' has been added as a color variation.
Apple said about the new MacBook Air, 'It delivers overwhelming value to anyone looking for a groundbreaking combination of world-class performance, portability, design and durability.' Prices remain the same as the previous model, with the 13-inch model starting at 164,800 yen (tax included) and the 15-inch model starting at 198,800 yen (tax included). At the time of writing, pre-orders were being accepted and sales are scheduled to begin on March 12, 2025.
