The games for which source code was released this time are 'Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn', 'Command & Conquer: Renegade', 'Command & Conquer: Red Alert', and 'Command & Conquer: Generals and Zero Hour'. EA has previously released the source code for 'Command & Conquer: Remastered Collection'.

Jim Vessela, producer of Command & Conquer, said that he had asked Luke Finan, head of the Command & Conquer community, to study improvements to the game, including the source code, in order to make the source code public. Finan said, 'We've been working for about a year to get the Command & Conquer source code back to a buildable state, and now we're releasing the fully restored source code for these games under the GNU General Public License .'

The release of the source code will enable new fan projects based on Command & Conquer, as well as the long-term preservation of the Command & Conquer series, which was released in the 1990s and early 2000s.

EA also introduced Steam Workshop support for four titles, Command & Conquer: Renegade, Command & Conquer: Generals and Zero Hour, Command & Conquer: Tiberium Wars, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 Uprising, and Command & Conquer: Tiberian Twilight, and released a mod support pack . The tool includes source XML , schema, scripts, shaders, and map files for all Command & Conquer titles that use SAGE as the game engine. This allows users to create new maps and assets, increase refresh rates, and add support for ultra-wide resolutions.

EA said, 'The release of the source code under the GNU General Public License reinforces Command & Conquer's position as a leading franchise in strengthening its gaming community. And with Steam Workshop now supporting user-created content for more Command & Conquer titles, modders will be able to easily share their creations with millions of Command & Conquer fans around the world. We can't wait to see what the Command & Conquer community creates with these new resources.'
