Free certificate authority Let's Encrypt announces end of expiration notification emails

Let's Encrypt , known as a free and open SSL certificate authority, has announced that it will end its expiration notification email sending service, which it has provided since its founding, on June 4, 2025.

According to Let's Encrypt, there are several reasons for the termination of the notification email service.

1: Over the past decade, more subscribers have implemented reliable, automated processes for certificate renewal.

2: Providing expiration notification emails means maintaining millions of email addresses associated with certificate issuance records, and for privacy-conscious organizations, it is important to eliminate this information.

3) The millions of dollars spent annually on expiration notifications could be redirected to other aspects of infrastructure development.

4. The expiration notification mechanism makes the infrastructure more complex and harder to manage, increasing the likelihood of mistakes. In the long term, as we add support for new service components, we need to manage the overall complexity by phasing out components that are no longer relevant.

If you want to continue receiving expiration notifications, we recommend using a third-party service such as Red Sift Certificates Lite, which allows you to manage up to 250 certificates for free.
