President Trump signs executive order establishing the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, who will have an office in the White House



On January 20, 2025 local time, President Donald Trump signed a presidential order to establish the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). It has also been reported that Elon Musk, who heads DOGE, has set up an office in

the West Wing , where the central functions of the government are located.

DOGE will be established by renaming the existing government agency 'United States Digital Service (USDS)' to 'United States DOGE Service (USDS)'. In addition, the 'US DOGE Service Temporary Organization' will be established within the USDS for a limited period until July 4, 2026, to promote the 'DOGE Agenda'. In addition, President Trump has asked each government agency to set up 'DOGE Teams' consisting of at least four people within the agency.

DOGE is an organization whose goal is to 'eliminate waste in the US government,' and even before its official launch, it was highlighting 'how the US government is wasting tax money' on its official X (formerly Twitter) account .



DOGE appears to have been working on 'eliminating government waste' even before the presidential order was issued, and reported that it had succeeded in removing the official website of the Chief Diversity Officers Executive Council, a government organization that supports diversity efforts, just before the presidential order was signed.




DOGE has long been reported to be led by Musk, who commented on the news of DOGE's establishment, saying, 'We will see meaningful results every week.'




According to the New York Times, Musk was originally scheduled to have an office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next to the White House, but was ultimately given an office in the West Wing, where the government's core functions are located. Musk has already been given a White House employee badge and has a government employee email address.
