According to local police, the fire broke out at 1:02 a.m. local time on January 19, 2025 in the office space used by Congressman Glenn Grothman.
Police and firefighters responded to the call and extinguished the fire, but the office door and air conditioning unit were burned and the fire was quickly contained. The office was unoccupied at the time the fire broke out, and no injuries had been reported at the time of writing.
Police subsequently arrested a 19-year-old man from Menasha, Wisconsin, for setting fire to Grossman's office space and detained him in the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of arson. The suspect admitted to police that he set the fire in response to the implementation of the TikTok ban. Grossman, who represents Wisconsin's 6th District, is known for voting in favor of the TikTok ban.

'We still don't know what happened other than that someone started the fire in protest of the TikTok ban,' Grossman told local media outlet FDL Reporter.
'No injuries were reported as a result of this fire and we would like to thank our local firefighters and police officers for their quick response,' Fond du Lac Police Chief Aaron Goldstein said in a statement. 'Violence in any form is not acceptable and we continue to work to protect the safety and well-being of our community.'
