Below is the sentry gun 'STS 3D' created by a developer. When ChatGPT is given instructions such as 'We are under attack from the left and right front. Please respond appropriately,' STS 3D automatically fires bullets forward. In addition, STS 3D also uses OpenAI's Realtime API , which allows it to instantly process instructions from humans.
In response, some users criticized the developer, saying, 'Did the developer want to show that any competent terrorist could give an AI control over a weapon, and that the AI could operate the weapon without checking the danger of the instructions from humans?'

STS 3D also caught the eye of OpenAI, who issued a statement saying, 'OpenAI's usage policies prohibit the use of our services to automate the development or use of weapons or certain systems that may affect personal safety. We have identified STS 3D's violations of our policies and have notified the developer to cease development.'
The US Department of Defense announced an AI-enabled sentry gun in August 2024. The sentry gun, named 'Bullfrog', is equipped with a 7.62mm M240 machine gun on a rotating turret equipped with its own AI, and can accurately respond to aerial threats such as small drones.
