The service, which OpenAI launched on December 18, 2024, allows users to talk to ChatGPT by calling '1-800-242-8478 (1-800-ChatGPT)' from a smartphone or landline. Similar to ChatGPT's voice function 'Advanced Voice Mode,' ChatGPT can answer questions from users and translate spoken words into another language.

According to OpenAI, voice calls with ChatGPT are limited to 15 minutes per month. OpenAI states, 'This service is an experimental effort to communicate with ChatGPT, so the content of the service may change.'

To start, people in the US will get 15 minutes per month of voice calling.

Also, starting December 18, 2024, you can now text chat with ChatGPT on the messaging app WhatsApp using the same phone number as for phone calls, 1-800-242-8478. On WhatsApp, you can interact with the basic AI provided by the official ChatGPT app. There is a daily limit on chats with ChatGPT on WhatsApp, and users will be notified when they approach this limit.
