According to AWS, customers can reserve a visit time through the AWS management console, connect their own storage via the AWS Data Transfer Terminal on the day, and upload their data to AWS.
To ensure the confidentiality of the work, there are no AWS signs on the buildings or tenants, and when you visit the AWS Data Transfer Terminal on the reserved date and time, a staff member will guide you to the location of the terminal.
The first AWS Data Transfer Terminals will be in New York and Los Angeles, with more planned, and each will be equipped with panels, fiber optic cables, and PCs to monitor data transfers.
Regarding the need to go to the trouble of 'connecting physical storage to a terminal and uploading data,' Amazon claims that 'via the AWS Data Transfer Terminal, high-speed uploads of up to 400 Gbps can be achieved via a secure, high-throughput connection.'
The fee is based on the time the connection port is used, and if you upload from a US terminal to the US region, it costs $300 (about 45,000 yen) per hour, and if you upload from a US terminal to the EU region, it costs $500 (about 75,000 yen) per hour. Also, if you upload data to AWS in the same region as the terminal you use, there is no data transfer fee.
