I actually tried drinking Lawson's 'Drinking Mayonnaise' to see how much mayonnaise it is

At Lawson's

test product fair , where food manufacturers test sell 'products that seem to exist but are not very common,' a drink that reproduces the taste of mayonnaise, ' Drinkable Mayo ,' appeared on November 26, 2024. I was curious to see how well it reproduced the mayonnaise-like taste, so I actually drank it to check the taste.

I found mayonnaise in the chilled beverage section of Lawson. Look for the silver packaging.

I bought some mayonnaise to take home.

The package says 'Test Sales'.

It also states, 'This is not confidential' and 'This is not mayonnaise.'

The lid also said 'Test sales in progress.'

The name is a soft drink. The ingredients include 'foods whose main ingredient is milk,' 'mayonnaise-flavored seasoning,' and 'processed whole eggs.'

The calorie count is 79 kcal per bottle (200 ml). By the way,

Kewpie Mayonnaise is 100 kcal per tablespoon, so if you eat the same amount of mayonnaise as you drink, it will be about 1,333 kcal.

Drinkable Mayonnaise is a drink that you drink by inserting a straw into the lid, but I was curious about the contents, so I poured it into a clear cup. It is a slightly yellowish white in color, and the moment you open the lid, the scent of eggs wafts out.

When you drink it, you can feel the taste that is quite close to mayonnaise, with a mellow egg taste and a sour taste. It also has a strong umami taste like kelp, and tastes closer to 'homemade mayonnaise sold at roadside stations' than the refreshing mayonnaise that is widely distributed. The high viscosity and slightly sticky texture also enhance the mayonnaise-like taste.

When I tried drinking it through a straw, the mayonnaise flavor hit my tongue with force, and I was able to experience the sensation of 'sucking mayonnaise directly from the tube.' Compared to real mayonnaise, it has differences such as 'low viscosity and flows through the mouth too quickly' and 'modest acidity and mild taste,' but it has less than one-tenth the calories of the real thing and can be gulped down without guilt, so you can fully enjoy the satisfaction of 'gulping down mayonnaise.'

Drinking Mayonnaise on its own tastes quite mayonnaise-like, but when you drink it while eating L-Chicken, the meat and oil bring out the umami and sourness of the mayonnaise, making it taste even more mayonnaise-like. It's also recommended to enjoy it with foods that you normally eat with mayonnaise.

The Lawson standard price for drinking mayo is 198 yen including tax.
