X (formerly Twitter) begins applying block specification changes, making posts visible even if blocked by the other person 'block-penetrating'

As announced in October 2024 , we have learned that X has begun applying changes to its blocking specifications. This will allow X users to see what others post even if they have been blocked by them.

X's New Blocked Accounts Feature Raises Concerns for User Safety

Until now, the specifications of blocking X were that 'you cannot see the other person's posts' and 'the other person cannot see your posts.' However, as previously announced , the specifications have been changed so that 'public posts can be seen by the blocked person.'

All you can do is view the post, but you cannot take any action such as replying or reposting.

If you block an account that you are following, the account will be unfollowed, and specifications such as not being able to follow an account that you have blocked or that has been blocked will still apply.

Since X also has a separate 'mute' feature that allows you to block other people's posts, there are quite a few users who use the block feature with the intention of 'not wanting certain people to see their posts.'

As some people use the feature as a way to protect themselves from cyberstalkers, related organizations have warned of the dangers of this, saying, 'This is a dangerous decision for social media, with serious implications for the safety of stalker victims in particular. Allowing blocked users to still see posts will pamper and encourage abusers and stalkers.'

However, X seems to think that this change in specifications does not fundamentally change the system, stating that 'it was possible to view posts from blocked users by logging in with a different account.'

It has been reported that the number of users of a similar social networking site, Bluesky, increased by 500,000 in just 24 hours after the specification change was suggested.
