In conjunction with AMD's third quarter 2024 financial results announcement on October 29, 2024, the company's CEO Lisa Su stated, 'Graphics revenue declined year-over-year as we prepare for the transition to our next-generation Radeon GPUs based on our RDNA 4 architecture. We plan to launch our first RDNA 4 GPUs in early 2025,' making her first official mention of the release date of RDNA 4.

According to CEO Su, RDNA 4 will significantly improve gaming and ray tracing performance, and will also add new AI features, but details have not yet been revealed.

According to prior information, the first GPU equipped with RDNA 4 is expected to be the 'Radeon RX 8000 series'. There has already been a

lot of buzz about benchmark scores that are thought to be from the Radeon RX 8000 series being published on Geekbench, but since this score is lower than the NVIDIA GTX 1650 released in 2019, it is widely believed that 'something must have gone wrong during the benchmarking process.' Other specs include the inclusion of 16GB of VRAM.

In the past, technology media Tom's Hardware heard from AMD senior vice president Jack Huynh that RDNA 4 is not targeting the niche high-end market, but rather the mainstream market and is being developed to capture market share in gaming graphics.

Finn also said, 'Users don't yet have a deep enough understanding of AMD's high-end GPUs to adopt them over NVIDIA's.' 'By expanding AMD's share of the low-end GPU market, more developers will be able to optimize their games for AMD's chips, which will give AMD a stronger foothold to compete with NVIDIA in the high-end GPU market.'

AMD's third quarter 2024 sales increased 17% from the previous quarter to $6.8 billion (approximately 1.4 trillion yen), and net income increased 191% from the previous quarter to $771 million (approximately 120 billion yen). By division, the data center division, which accounts for half of net income, performed well, increasing by about 25% from the previous quarter, but the gaming division, which includes GPUs for game consoles, was down about 84%.

'AMD's consumer business typically performs best in the second half of the year,' said Su. 'The combination of our existing Ryzen models and the upcoming X3D chips should enable us to expect a stronger than normal second half.'

In addition, the 'early 2025' that CEO Su mentioned is the large-scale trade fair CES 2025 (held from January 7th to 10th). Rival NVIDIA has already announced that CEO Jensen Huang will hold a keynote speech at CES 2025, and it is expected that the next-generation GPU of the RTX series will be announced.
