The Washington Post points out that posts by Republican lawmakers on X (formerly Twitter) are clearly more popular than those by Democratic lawmakers

The Washington Post, a news site, investigated the accounts of congressional officials on Twitter and reported that while there has been no increase in posts by Democratic lawmakers, which have been viewed more than 20 million times, there has been a significant increase in viral posts by Republican lawmakers over the past year.

The Washington Post looked at the trends of the top 100 accounts of senators, representatives, and congressional committees on X over the past few months, and concluded that the overall number of views has been declining, indicating that X's political influence and usefulness as a platform is declining.

The report also notes that while it has become more difficult to attract attention since the advent of X compared to the days of Twitter, Republican lawmakers are more likely to create buzz than Democratic lawmakers.

Specifically, in the second half of 2023, there were eight posts by Democratic lawmakers and five by Republican lawmakers that reached more than 20 million views, while in the first half of 2024, the number of buzz posts by Democratic lawmakers decreased to three while the number of buzz posts by Republican lawmakers increased to 19. In the most recent period from July to October 2024, there were six buzz posts by Democratic lawmakers while there were 29 buzz posts by Republican lawmakers.

The most buzzworthy post was one by Republican Congressman Jim Jordan, who said, 'Philadelphia is not safe under Democrat rule,' which has garnered 110 million views. Note that the video used in the post was not shot by Congressman Jordan, but was posted by crime consultant Dapper Detective (@Dapper_Det) .

Jordan's post 'Let's protect Ohio's ducks and cats!' has also racked up 87 million views. This post is a play on Trump's baseless claim during a TV debate that Haitian immigrants were eating dogs and cats in Ohio .

A survey of follower numbers also found that Republican lawmakers saw increases in their numbers, while Democrats saw no notable increases, with the exception of Texas Senator Collin Allred , who gained 35,000 followers.

The news site Daily Caller summarized, 'The Washington Post article suggests that Elon Musk, the owner of X, is regulating his rival, the Democratic Party, because he is close to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump,' but pointed out that it 'misses the consideration that the growing interest of conservatives is because the liberals who used to run Twitter were forced out after Musk bought it. It also said, 'The Washington Post's '

sugar daddy' Jeff Bezos is unhappy with Musk and the staff believes it is their duty to attack him.'

In addition, the part that 'Bezos is dissatisfied with Musk, a Republican supporter' is merely a speculation by the Daily Caller, and it is not clear what Bezos thinks about the Republican Party and Musk.

It has been revealed that Bezos has been lobbying the Washington Post, which has traditionally supported Democratic candidates, not to publish articles supporting Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. This incident has caused many people to cancel their subscriptions to the Washington Post.
