According to OpenAI's Flyer, who appeared on Bloomberg TV on October 28, 2024, 75% of OpenAI's business revenue comes from consumer subscriptions.
In addition to a free version that limits access during peak times, ChatGPT also offers a personal plan called Plus for $20 (about 3,000 yen) per month, and an enterprise plan called Team starting at $25 (about 3,800 yen) per month.
'I've been particularly impressed with how quickly our consumer business has grown,' said Fryer. 'And while our enterprise business is still in its infancy, it's already generating impressive annual revenue and we're excited about its potential.'

In September 2024, OpenAI announced that the number of paying users, including ChatGPT Team for businesses and ChatGPT Edu for education, had reached 1 million, but its consumer business in particular has been a rapidly growing area.
According to Flyer, ChatGPT has 250 million weekly active users, with 5-6% of free users transitioning to paid users.
According to data from financial information service PYMNTS, more than half of paying users of business products are outside the United States.
While revenue is growing, OpenAI is spending heavily to develop and operate more advanced AI systems. In September, OpenAI forecast annual revenue of $3.7 billion in 2024, but estimated a loss of $5 billion after operating costs, salaries and overhead.
Expectations are high for OpenAI, which expects to achieve sales of $11.6 billion (approximately 1.772 trillion yen) in 2025. The company completed a $6.6 billion (approximately 1 trillion yen) funding round in early October 2024 and obtained a $4 billion (approximately 611 billion yen) credit line from banks around the world, meaning that it can repeatedly borrow within a certain limit.
