Apple releases iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 including 'Apple Intelligence,' but AI features are still only available in English
The official versions of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, including Apple's AI personal intelligence system ' Apple Intelligence ', have been released. On October 29, 2024, the initial features of Apple Intelligence for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users were made available through a software update. The main features available at the time of release are ' system-wide writing tools ,' ' more natural and conversational Siri ,' ' smarter Photos app ,' and ' new ways to prioritize and focus .'
◆ System-wide writing tool
When writing in email, messages, notes, Pages, third-party apps installed on each device, etc., you can use the 'Rewrite', 'Proofread' and 'Summarize' features of Apple Intelligence. With this feature, you can correct your writing to a 'professional', 'concise' or 'friendly' style, and automatically check grammar, language and syntax to see suggested edits.

The Memories feature allows users to enter a description and automatically select photos and videos that fit that description to create a narrative video. It will be available on iPhone and iPad first, and will be available on Mac in the coming months.

This function simplifies email management. With this function, urgent emails such as today's lunch or flight will be displayed at the top of the inbox. In addition, the function allows you to check the contents of an email without opening it by simply tapping 'Summary' and has a smart reply function for quickly replying to emails.
These initial features will only be available if the device and Siri language are set to English (US). Apple says it is 'rapidly expanding the number of languages it supports,' and plans to support English localization in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK in December 2024. Support for Japanese will be available after April 2025.
Apple Intelligence is compatible with the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max, as well as iPads equipped with the A17 Pro or M1 or later, and Macs equipped with the M1 or later.
The next feature is scheduled to be added in December 2024, and Apple says, 'There will be more features coming in the future.'
