Amazon changes policy to '5 days a week in the office'

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many companies have increased the amount of time they spend working remotely. While some companies have since shifted their focus to completely remote work, many others have decided that they still need to work in the office. Amazon is a prime example of the latter, with CEO Andy Jassy announcing that the company will require employees to work in the office five days a week from 2025.

Remote work has benefits such as no commute time and the ability to take care of household chores in between work, and it seems to be generally viewed favorably by employees, but management seems to consider it to be 'low productivity.'

Among major companies, Google, Dell, and Zoom are known to be opposed to remote work.

In a message issued on September 16, 2024, CEO Jassy outlined his intention to further strengthen Amazon's corporate culture by reducing management positions, flattening the organization, and having employees come into the office to spend more time working together.

However, it will still be permitted to switch to remote work for one or two days a week if, for example, a child gets sick, an emergency occurs at home, you need to go to a client or partner, or you need to concentrate on coding in an isolated environment.

This 'five days a week in the office' policy will start on January 2, 2025, taking into account changes in daily schedules.
