It is said that there are 10 million unfilled job openings in the United States, of which 7 million are in warehouse, transportation, and retail. However, it is said that there are only 6 million people in the United States who can fill these jobs, and these industries also have a high turnover rate. Figure, an AI robot company, was founded to fill the job shortage in the United States with humanoid robots.

The reason why Figure is sticking to humanoid robots rather than robots is because of the idea that 'humans have designed the world to fit the shape of humans.' If a robot can be humanoid and move in the same way as a human, it will be possible to make the robot use environments that are optimized for humans, such as opening doors, climbing stairs, and using tools.

Figure has announced the AI-equipped autonomous humanoid robot 'Figure 02'. The specifications of Figure 02 are total height 5.6 feet (about 1.7 meters), maximum load capacity 20 kg, weight 70 kg, operating time 5 hours, maximum speed 1.2 meters per second, and powered by electricity.

You can check out Figure 02 in action in the video below.

The manipulator implements a fourth-generation hand with 16 degrees of freedom and human-like strength.

For vision, it uses an AI-driven vision system equipped with six RGB cameras.

The CPU and GPU deliver three times the on-board computing and AI inference performance compared to the previous generation.

The Figure 02's onboard VLM can converse directly with humans via its onboard microphone and speaker.

A 2.25kWh battery is installed in the fuselage.

BMW is also testing Figure 02 on its production line at its plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

We have succeeded in learning the placement positions of parts using a 100% autonomous neural network.

The learned behavior will be automatically corrected by AI.

The previous generation model of Figure 02, Figure 01, was equipped with OpenAI's VLM. Figure trained Figure 01 to make coffee using a coffee machine by showing it 10 hours of video, and then filmed and released a video of the process of actually making coffee.
