Nintendo requests removal of Nintendo Switch emulators Suyu, Nzu, Uzuy, Torzu, Sudachi, Yuzu-vanced, etc.

Nintendo of America, the US subsidiary of Nintendo, has requested the removal of GitHub repositories for Nintendo Switch emulators such as 'Suyu,' 'Nzu,' 'Uzuy,' 'Torzu,' 'Sudachi,' and 'Yuzu-vanced,' all of which contain code that illegally circumvents Nintendo's copyright protection technology. All of these emulators are successor projects to the 'Yuzu' emulator that was previously sued by Nintendo of America.

According to Nintendo of America, the emulators that were the subject of the removal request contain code based on 'Yuzu,' which illegally circumvents Nintendo's copyright protection technology and may expose users to copyright infringement.

Yuzu is an emulator that allows you to play Nintendo Switch games on a PC, etc., and was being developed as open source, but Nintendo of America deemed it to be in violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) circumvention prohibition and sued it . Yuzu's developers accepted the lawsuit, accepted the settlement proposal, and agreed to pay Nintendo of America $2.4 million (approximately 388 million yen). As a result of the settlement, Yuzu's GitHub repository was deleted, and the domains managed by Yuzu were handed over to Nintendo of America.

The day after Yuzu was released, a project called ' Suyu ' appeared. Suyu took over the Yuzu code and claimed to thoroughly eliminate any copyright infringement, but it was removed from GitLab shortly after its release, and its Discord server was deleted shortly thereafter at Discord's request.

Several other projects, including 'yuzu-build', 'Torzu', 'yuzu_compressed', 'Sudachi', 'Uzuy', and 'SUYU-EMU', have emerged as forks of Yuzu or similar projects, but those that contain Yuzu code that circumvents copyright protection technology have been subject to DMCA takedown notices and have had their GitHub repositories disabled. However, GitHub rules allow each developer to file a counter-notice.

The developer of Sudachi said , 'We received a notice, but we are appealing it because we are not providing illegal content,' and commented that they would replace the code with an open source alternative and wait for GitHub's response.
