A research paper that analyzed data from 2.3 million people to examine the relationship between lifestyle habits and health was published in Nature Human Behavior on June 17, 2024. The paper shows that eating cheese may contribute to 'healthy aging.'

A research team from the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine collected eight different datasets containing information on up to 2.3 million Europeans and analyzed how various factors such as 'smoking,' 'sleep,' 'exercise habits,' 'diet,' 'physical characteristics,' and 'presence or absence of illness' affect happiness and health in old age.

The analysis revealed that smoking had a negative impact of 4.56% on 'healthy aging,' while long hours of television viewing had a negative impact of 7.39% on 'healthy aging.'

On the other hand, eating fruit was found to have a 1.96% positive impact on 'healthy aging,' while eating cheese was found to have a 3.67% positive impact.

There are other research reports that cheese is associated with good health. For example, in 2023, a paper by Meiji University, J. F. Oberlin University, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology titled 'Inverse correlation between cheese intake and poor cognitive function in community-dwelling Japanese elderly people based on a cross-sectional study' was

published in the academic journal Nutrients.

According to the research team, after analyzing the results of physical ability tests and questionnaires on a total of 1,504 Japanese men and women aged 65 and over, they found that factors such as 'eating cheese,' 'walking fast,' and 'having thick calves' are associated with 'resistance to cognitive decline.'

Neither study provided any direct reason why cheese is associated with better health.
