The TOUGHBOOK 40 Mk2 measures 354mm wide x 301mm high x 54.4mm deep, and weighs 3.35kg. It is IP66 waterproof and dustproof, and has an operating temperature range of -29°C to +63°C. It is also drop-resistant up to 180cm.
The CPU is Intel Core Ultra 5 135H or Intel Core Ultra 7 165H.
The display is a 14-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. It is a capacitive touch screen, so it can be used even in the rain or when wearing gloves. The OS is Windows 11 Pro 64-bit. The RAM is 16GB DDR5 (up to four can be installed), and the storage is 512GB NVMe OPAL SSD (expandable up to 2TB).
The standout feature is that it uses Panasonic's proprietary 'xPaks' expansion modules, which allow you to replace the battery, storage, and RAM. Each battery lasts up to 12 hours, but you can extend the battery life by replacing them.
Other xPaks that come by default include those that support USB ports, HDMI ports, fingerprint readers, contactless card readers, DVD multi-drives, etc.
It also has a microphone and speaker, and the AI-enabled noise reduction function of the microphone allows for effective communication even in noisy environments.
The communication standards are Bluetooth 5.3 Class 1, Wi-Fi 7, IEEE 802.3 10Base-T / IEEE 802.3u 100BASE-TX / IEEE 802.3ab, and 4G / 5G via a separate eSIM. When using Wi-Fi 7, it can communicate at up to 5.8 Gbps, which is said to be especially useful for police officers who have to upload a large amount of video at the end of their shift.
In terms of security, it supports TPM (TCG V2.0 compliant), supervisor password , hard disk lock, and a security lock that physically locks the PC. In addition, it also has a security function that can securely erase all content on the device within 10 seconds.
Dominique Passanante, vice president of Panasonic Connect, said, 'We are dedicated to developing solutions that not only meet our customers' needs, but also anticipate their future needs. The TOUGHBOOK 40 Mk2, equipped with advanced AI capabilities, will be one of the tools that mobile workers need to increase their work productivity and efficiency.'
