In early June 2024, Luckey announced the ModRetro Chromatic , a portable gaming console he billed as the 'ultimate Game Boy Color.'
The founder of Oculus VR releases the 'Ultimate Game Boy Color,' which has features such as a 'display with good visibility even outdoors during the day' and an 'aluminum alloy exterior' that allows you to play the cassettes of that time - GIGAZINE
In response to the announcement, Luckey was asked, 'Even Palmer Luckey seems to want to release a handheld device rather than a VR head-mounted display (HMD).' Luckey responded, 'We're working on a new HMD, and we'll be announcing it at AWE.'

Luckey, who appeared on stage at AWE, announced that he is working on a new HMD as promised. However, the project is still in the early stages, and Luckey only said, 'It's being driven by military needs, but it can also be used for non-military purposes,' without going into details.

Lucky brought a case with the 'Oculus' logo and the words 'Development Kit' to the venue.

Some people seemed to be hoping that 'Maybe there's a newly developed HMD inside?', but in fact it literally contained Oculus' first development model, the Oculus Rift DK1, and the audience was excited to hear this.

Luckey also noted that the environment surrounding VR is changing, with Meta's VR headset Quest expected to sell 20 million units in 2023 and 1 million people playing the VR game 'Gorilla Tag' every day, and that the standards for success themselves have changed.

In addition, Skeeva, the founder of an XR marketing company and a VR studio, reported that he brought an Oculus Rift DK1 to the venue and got Lackey's autograph.
