According to Reuters, the Brazilian government plans to use OpenAI's AI services through Microsoft's cloud computing service Azure. The AI services will be used primarily by the Attorney General's Office, which is expected to help the government avoid losing money on expensive legal fees that are straining the government's budget.
The AI will learn about the work and trends of the Attorney General's Office, quickly review thousands of cases, and notify the Attorney General's Office of whether or not it is necessary to take action on the case.
Details such as which OpenAI model will be used or how much of the budget will be allocated to the use of AI are unclear. Regarding the current court-related budget, Reuters reports that 'Court-ordered debt payments account for a growing proportion of Brazil's federal budget and are estimated to exceed 100 billion reais (about 3 trillion yen) in total by 2025, which is equivalent to 1% of GDP.'
In response to a Reuters inquiry, the Attorney General's Office said, 'The AI project is not intended to replace the work of our staff, but rather to help increase efficiency and accuracy with full human oversight of all activities.'
