Apple is reportedly working on two robotic devices with LLM, with plans to offer AI features as an opt-in service

Apple has reportedly partnered with OpenAI and is expected to announce iOS 18 with chat AI integration at the

WWDC 2024 event, which will be held from June 10, 2024. Apple is also reported to be making AI features opt-in, and plans to integrate large language models (LLMs) into two consumer robotics projects.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who is familiar with Apple's situation, reported that 'Apple and OpenAI are in the final stages of negotiations' and that OpenAI's ChatGPT or some other chat AI will be integrated into iOS 18.

According to Gurman's new report, the AI features will be implemented on an opt-in basis, and users who are concerned about privacy will be able to choose not to use the AI features. Gurman said, 'Wary customers can easily avoid the AI if they wish,' and at the same time, it will be possible to avoid unnecessary reputational damage caused by AI.

Apple is also focusing on its voice assistant Siri, and is reportedly including AI-powered summary functions and real-time transcription in iOS 18, but Siri and the new AI features are expected to be offered as separate products.

Additionally, it has been reported that LLM will be integrated into a previously reported 'consumer-oriented domestic robot.'

The two robot projects reportedly include a desktop display that moves up and down when a person nods during a FaceTime session, and a mobile robot that follows users around the house to help with household chores. Gurman said that the people involved said that LLM will be integrated into these robots.

Apple is also in negotiations with Google, and is continuing talks about adopting Google's AI 'Gemini.' According to a person familiar with the situation, Apple is also negotiating separately with other chatbot companies, but it particularly values OpenAI's technology, and the terms presented by OpenAI were also good, which is why it first agreed to the deal. However, Apple has a long history of eventually incorporating external technologies in-house, such as when it replaced Intel chips with its own silicon, so some are viewing the agreement with OpenAI as a 'stopgap measure.'
