Chinese smartphone manufacturer HONOR announces plans to make Google's AI assistant Gemini and image generation AI Imagen 2 available on its smartphones
China-based device manufacturer HONOR announced on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 that it will integrate Google's AI functions into its smartphones. In addition, HONOR has also revealed plans to make the AI assistant 'Gemini' and image generation AI 'Imagen 2' available on its smartphones.

HONOR smartphones are equipped with a custom Android-based OS called MagicOS . HONOR participated in the technology conference 'Viva Technology' held in Paris on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, and announced that it will integrate generative AI functions using Google Cloud into MagicOS.

HONOR also announced plans to release a new model in the HONOR 200 series on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. At the same time, the company also announced that the smartphone to be released will be equipped with an AI-based portrait function.

In addition, a HONOR spokesperson told overseas media outlet CNBC that 'future devices will include the functions of Google's AI assistant Gemini and image generation AI Imagen 2.' Gemini and Imagen 2 have been installed in Samsung's Galaxy S24 series , other than Google's original devices.
The Galaxy S24 series was equipped with a relatively small AI model called Gemini Nano that runs locally. HONOR mentioned 'integration of on-device AI' during the Viva Technology presentation, but it is unclear whether this 'on-device AI' refers to the Gemini Nano.
