There are many different types of soundproofing walls, but transparent ones that do not spoil the aesthetics of the building reflect sound and have low sound absorption capabilities. On the other hand, soundproofing walls made from materials with high sound absorption capabilities block the view, spoiling the view.
Developed by Deutsche Bahn and Phononic Vibes, MetaWindow uses a unique geometric design to provide far greater sound absorption than conventional products, achieving a noise blocking level of 34-37dB and up to 72% transparency.
'To achieve our environmental protection goals, we need to increase rail traffic and expand and extend our network, but rail transport must be quiet in order for residents to accept it. This is exactly where our innovative product MetaWindow comes in. With the transparent sound barrier MetaWindow, local governments no longer have to choose between aesthetics and functionality,' says Berthold Huber, Deutsche Bahn's Director of Infrastructure.
MetaWindows was showcased at the Green Tech festival in Berlin and is due to be used on the S4 line in Hamburg in late 2024.
