Exercising your brain with 'Dicele,' a 'Wordle'-like number puzzle

When you enter a word, hints are displayed in yellow if that character is used, and in green if the character number matches. The puzzle game ' Wordle ' allows you to use the hints to find the correct word. Since its release, it has quickly become popular around the world, and many derivative games have been released, such as '

Pokemon Wordle, ' where you guess the name of a Pokemon, and the extremely difficult ' Kanjile ,' where you guess four-character idioms. In ' Dicele ,' hints are displayed in yellow and green just like Wordle, and you move the dice so that the results match the totals of the columns and rows, making it a puzzle game that is a different kind of brain teaser from word guessing.

When I opened the Dicele page, the instructions for playing were displayed. In Dicele, there are five numbers in the right column and five numbers in the bottom row, and dice are randomly placed between them. The numbers in the columns and rows are the total value of the dice in that column and row, and the position of this dice changes to 'yellow' if the column or row is 'correct' and 'green' if the location is 'correct', so the game is to move the dice by combining these hints.

The game screen looks like this. Under the board with the dice lined up, there is '21 moves remaining,' which means you can move the dice 21 times. If you can't clear it within 21 moves, the game is over.

When you start the game, a hand icon will move, telling you to 'move the '5' in the upper left corner to the '6' position,' so you can move the '5' by dragging and dropping it.

Then, the '5' and '6' that were moved turned green, and the number below changed to '20 moves remaining'. Since green indicates the correct answer, you can continue guessing using this as a hint, and if you can make all the dice green, you've cleared it.

As shown in the red frame below, the top row must have five dice for a total value of 26. Since the numbers '5' and '6' are fixed, the remaining three dice must be rolled to make the total 15. However, there are many combinations to make this, so it seems difficult to guess.

Since the smaller the total value, the easier it is to guess, let's start from the fourth row from the top. Here, the total of three dice is 4, so the only combination is '2, 1, 1'. The yellow '2' is a hint that '2 is used in this row', but at the same time, it indicates that 'this position is not 2', so you should be able to see that '1' will go in the place of the two '2's in this row, and '2' will go in the remaining position where '4' is currently located.

So, drag and drop the '1' to move it to this row.

As expected, the '1' turned green.

In the same way, replace the second '2' with a '1'.

By swapping the remaining white '4' with a '2' dice, the total value becomes 4, and all three dice in this row turn green. When completing this row, the '4' that was moved coincidentally matches, and another one is confirmed.

Therefore, the top row has a total value of 26, of which 15 is confirmed, and the goal is to get 11 with two numbers. The only two numbers that can add up to 11 are '5 and 6,' so filling them in will clear this row.

Next, the column shown in the red frame below has a total value of 11, but the remaining number is 7 because the number '4' is confirmed. The combination of two dice that results in 7 is either '1, 6', '2, 5', or '3, 4', but since there is a white '1' at the bottom of the column, you can see that ''1' does not exist in this column.' The trick to clearing the game is to gradually increase the number of dice that are confirmed and improve the accuracy of your guesses.

Once you clear it, 'AMAZING' will be displayed and you will receive a star rating. If it takes 21 moves to clear, you will get 0 stars, but if you clear it within 16 moves, you will get 5 stars. There is a 'SHARE' button to share the quiz you are trying and the cleared status, but at the time of writing this article, there was no reaction when clicking it. Dicele updates new quizzes every day, so you can play every day, and you can also challenge past quizzes by clicking 'Archive'.

At the time of writing, there are 544 puzzles, and you can freely choose from them to play. The overall clear status and the acquisition status of '5 stars' that can be cleared within 16 moves are also displayed, so it is recommended to try to complete it.

If you use up all 21 moves, the game is over. You can try again or play past quizzes. In the case of word guessing quizzes, it is difficult to enjoy it again if you remember the hint 'which letters are correct' or the answer is shown by game over, but in the case of Dicele, it is difficult to remember what the numbers are, so even after game over or after clearing it once, it is easy to enjoy re-challenge to clear it with fewer steps.

In addition, you can view your current playing status by clicking the graph button in the top right corner of the screen.

You can check the number of times you have played the current quiz and the type of stars you have earned.

You can also press the question mark button to review the instructions for playing the game that were displayed when you first opened the page.

Dicele does not have the fun of thinking 'thinking of a five-letter word' like a word guessing quiz, but since you solve it by combining the results of the dice displayed and the total number with color hints, it feels like 'it's easy to tackle, but it's deep when you think about it. Even if you don't have a confirmed number, the only candidates are the numbers 1 to 6 on the board, so you can move randomly to get closer to clearing. In addition, if you can play while noticing hints well, such as 'If this is yellow, the candidates should be this and this,' or 'Since that is white, you can guess this number,' you should be able to do brain exercises that make you feel like a different part of your brain is hotter than when playing Wordle.

You can also install Dicele from the Google Play Store and play with the app.
