◆Establishment of OpenAI Japan
Since its founding in 2015, OpenAI has been conducting research and development into AI, and has released a series of high-performance AI products, including the chat AI 'ChatGPT,' the image generation AI ' DALL·E 3 ,' and the video generation AI ' Sora .'

On Monday, April 15, 2024, OpenAI announced that it had established its first Asian business base, 'OpenAI Japan,' in Tokyo. OpenAI explained that the reason it chose Japan as its first Asian base is because 'Tokyo is a world leader in technology, service culture, and a community that embraces innovation.'

OpenAI Japan will work with the government, companies, and research institutes to develop 'safe AI tools that meet Japan's unique needs.' In addition, Tadao Nagasaki, who served as president of AWS Japan, will serve as president of OpenAI Japan.

Announcing the establishment of OpenAI Japan, CEO Sam Altman commented, 'We are pleased to open an office in Japan. ◆ Japanese optimized version of GPT-4
In conjunction with the announcement of the establishment of OpenAI Japan, the release of a Japanese-optimized version of OpenAI's large-scale language model 'GPT-4' was also announced. The Japanese-optimized version of GPT-4 has improved translation and summarization performance for Japanese text compared to the conventional GPT-4, and has also achieved improved cost efficiency. In addition, it is characterized by running up to three times faster than the conventional GPT-4.




The API for the Japanese-optimized version of GPT-4 is scheduled to be released within the next few months. The model has already been provided to several companies, and the English learning app ' Speak ' has reportedly adopted the model to increase the speed of AI instruction output by 2.8 times and reduce costs by 47%.
