Review of the titanium framed 6.8-inch flat screen Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S24, Samsung's AI-focused smartphones - are there any flaws in their bodies?

Samsung

announced the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra, which are equipped with Google's AI Gemini, in January 2024, and were released globally on January 31st. The next Galaxy models are rumored to be released in Japan in March, and we were able to get our hands on the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra, so we took a closer look at the larger display than the previous model and the body, which has a new design that uses titanium as the material.

The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra came in boxes that looked like this.

First, when I opened the box of the Galaxy S24, the main body appeared. The color is cobalt violet.

The accessories were attached to the lid.

Let's check the contents. First of all, this is a USB Type-C cable for charging and a SIM pin. Note that an adapter is not included.

A quick start guide and a quality assurance card in various languages. Since this is the global version, Japanese was not included.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra also comes with the same contents, and the body color is titanium gray.

The Galaxy S24 measures 147mm in height, 70.6mm in width, and 7.6mm in thickness, and weighs approximately 168g.

For reference, here is a comparison with

the Google Pixel 8, which was released in August 2023. The Galaxy S24 is a standard Android smartphone in terms of size and weight.

The Galaxy S24's main camera is a triple camera consisting of a 12MP (12 megapixel) ultra-wide-angle camera, a 50MP wide-angle camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is 162.3mm long x 79mm wide x 8.6mm thick, and weighs about 233g. Because of its titanium body, it is 65g heavier than the Galaxy S24 and has a solid presence when held in the hand. In other words, it is a heavy and bulky smartphone.

The main camera on the back of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is a quad camera consisting of a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera from the top of the left column, a 200MP wide-angle camera, a 50MP telephoto camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera located second from the top of the right column. The Galaxy S24 Ultra's rear camera, which is crowded with five parts together with the autofocus sensor at the top of the right column, gives the viewer a unique impression.

Here's what the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Ultra look like side by side: Both models have a flat design, but there are differences in the shape and size of the corners.

Here's a close-up of the corners. The Galaxy S24 Ultra was described in a previous

overseas review as 'the corners of the device feel quite sharp, and it can be irritating if you hit them when holding the phone,' but while this is a subjective impression, when I held the actual device in my hand, it didn't feel that sharp.

However, when I put my hand in the pocket where the Galaxy S24 Ultra was, I could feel the corners of the phone hitting my palm, and it's heavy, so if you were to use it while lying down and it were to fall on your face, it would probably be quite painful, so if you're concerned about this, you might want to use

an accessory such as a case.

Although there are differences in size and corner shape, the rest of the design is the same, with nothing on the top except for a small hole that appears to be a microphone.

On the right side are the volume and power buttons.

The left side looks like this.

On the bottom there is a speaker, a USB Type-C port, and a SIM card slot, but the placement is symmetrical between the Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The Galaxy S24 Ultra also has an S Pen stored inside.

The S Pen comes out when you press it.

When you take out the S Pen, it looks like this.

Both models have a 12MP front camera above the display.

The Galaxy S24 has a 6.2-inch display with a resolution of FHD (1920 x 1080)+, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra has a 6.8-inch display with a resolution of QHD (2560 x 1440)+.
