However, in 2023, MariaDB downsized its database business , withdrew from its geospatial business that analyzes satellite imagery and related file types, laid off one-third of its employees, and replaced its management team. There were a lot of changes going on, and the company's survival was in jeopardy.

It has been revealed that K1 Investment Management has made an offer to acquire MariaDB on February 19, 2024. According to K1 Investment Management, they are proposing to purchase all of MariaDB's shares for 55 cents (approximately 82 yen) per share. As of February 5th, MariaDB's enterprise value is approximately $37 million.

According to MariaDB, this offer from K1 Investment Management is an unsolicited, non-binding proposal and does not necessarily lead to an acquisition. MariaDB also has until March 29, 2024 to submit relevant documents to K1 Investment Management to accept the acquisition offer, or to declare that it will not accept the offer.
