Chess pieces can be represented by extremely simple shapes.

Chess has pieces such as pawns, kings, and knights, and these pieces are carved into figures that embody their names. Regarding such chess pieces, a designer posted on X (formerly Twitter), ``I realized that you can change the design of chess pieces to a design that shows the direction of movement,'' and it has received a lot of feedback.

Below are the designs shared by designer Gray Crawford. Chess pieces are represented by crosses and American seals.

If you express the movement more easily with lines, it looks like this.

For example, a king can advance one square anywhere among the eight surrounding squares, so it is shaped like a rice seal.

The rook is cross-shaped and can move freely vertically and horizontally.

The knight is shaped like this because it can move in an L-shape.

By making design changes such as showing only the directions in which the pieces can be moved in dark colors, even chess beginners will be able to grasp the movement of the pieces. In addition, in the image below, there is a typographical error in the g3 knight.

The post shared by Crawford received comments such as ``It would be interesting to animate it'' and ``I've already done something similar.''
