Mike Menand, who lives in Roswell, Georgia, USA, was hiking at the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area with his dogs Cinnamon and Sugar in April 2023. While hiking, Menand said he encountered a coyote and said, ``The surprised coyote pushed me down, causing me to fall off the trail.''

Menand says Apple Watch saved his life.

At the time of the fall, the Apple Watch Menand was wearing instantly detected the fall, sounded a warning sound, and displayed a notification on the screen asking to contact emergency services. 'I have no idea how long I was lying there,' Menand said, recalling the fall. 'I realized I couldn't move, couldn't get up. It hurt so bad.'

My dogs Cinnamon and Sugar were walking with Menand.

At the time of the fall, Mr. Menand had his smartphone in his pocket, so he was unable to take it out and make a call. However, since Menand had his Apple Watch wrapped around his arm, he said he was able to tap the screen to contact emergency services and call an ambulance.

'When I called

911 , they stayed with me until the emergency services arrived,' Menand said, thanking the Roswell Fire Department and EMTs who responded to the call. Eight months have passed since Mr. Menand's accident, but it seems that he still has a titanium rod in his foot.

At the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area where Menand's fall occurred, a 46-year-old woman from Sandy Springs also died after falling off the road while walking her dog. As a result, Menand said, ``When I heard the news, I thought it might have been me who died. When I fell, I was alone and no one was around me, and they didn't know where I was.'' No one knew,' he said.

Menand wrote a letter of thanks directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook, who shared the story with FOX 5. And now FOX 5 is reporting on the matter.

In addition, smart watches that can detect falls and changes in heart rate are sold by manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung, Garmin, and Google.
