Leica M11-P, the world's first camera with a built-in 'content credential function' that adds AI usage history and author information to images

Nick Rains Explains - Leica Content Credentials in the M11-P - YouTube
Leica's M11-P is the third product in the M11 series, following the M11 and M11 Monochrome . In terms of specs, the built-in memory has been increased from 64GB in the M11 to 256GB (same as the M11 Monochrome), but other than a few cosmetic changes, it is almost the same camera as the original M11.
The most significant feature is that it is the world's first camera with a built-in 'content credential function.' When you take a photo with the M11-P, information such as the camera manufacturer and model name, who took the photo, when, and how is attached to the image data. This data can be viewed on the Verify Content Credentials page and in the Leica FOTOS app. This operation is handled by hardware rather than software, and the M11-P is said to have a unique chipset that stores the digital certificate of the German Federal Printing Office.
Content credentials ensure the authenticity of content, and when you view content with a compatible app or software, you can check information related to that content. The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), a standards organization, is working to popularize content credentials so that the original information can be verified even if content is distributed everywhere, but metadata may have been removed somewhere. It has also been pointed out that there is a possibility that it may get lost.
Leica said that the M11-P was born from a desire to 'increase the reliability of storytelling.' At the time of the announcement, Leica said, 'We have incorporated technology into the camera that can demonstrate the authenticity of images, and we are committed to increasing the reliability of digital content. 'We have decided to once again increase the reliability of Leica cameras as tools for recording important events that occur around the world.'
Leica 'M11-P' is scheduled to be released on October 28, 2023, and the price is 1,474,000 yen including tax.
