Benchmarking Google Pixel 8 & Pixel 8 Pro, thoroughly comparing CPU, GPU, and AI processing performance, which has evolved from the Pixel 7 series.

The biggest point in the evolution of the smartphones ' Google Pixel 8 ' and ' Google Pixel 8 Pro ' released by Google on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from the previous models is that they have an order of magnitude higher computing power than the Pixel 7 series' Tensor G2. This is an upgrade to Tensor G3, which has improved and further refined its AI capabilities. The GIGAZINE editorial department

purchased such Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro on the day of release, so in order to confirm their power, we conducted a benchmark test with Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro and compared the performance. Ta.

◆4: Summary

◆1: CPU
First, we will check the CPU performance with Geekbench 6 , a standard benchmark application. The test was conducted twice, and the one with the highest multi-core score was used. In addition, since the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro were just released, I couldn't install the app from Google Play, so I installed it by sideloading.

First, the Pixel 7 had a single core of 1450 and a multi-core of 3762.

Next, Pixel 7 Pro had 1489 and 3747.

And the Pixel 8 is below. Single core is 1676 and multi-core is 4224, which is a big improvement over Pixel 7.

The Pixel 8 Pro's score was even higher, with a single-core score of 1775 and a multi-core score of 4574.

The Pixel 8 series has increased the number of CPU cores from 8 cores to 9 cores from the previous model, and it was found that both 1-core performance and multi-core performance have been significantly improved.

◆2: GPU
Next, we will use

3DMark to check the drawing performance, which is important in games and the like. The test used was Wild Life, which was run twice and the one with the better numbers was used.

First, the Pixel 7's score was 6660.

Pixel 7 Pro is 6684.

On the other hand, Pixel 8 has a large difference from the previous model at 8590.

The Pixel 8 Pro achieved the highest score of 8605, and the Pixel 8 series showed an overwhelming difference in graphic processing.

◆3: Machine learning
Tensor, which is installed in the Pixel series, is an SoC that particularly excels in AI functions. Therefore, I also performed benchmark measurements using

Geekbench ML, which allows you to check the performance of machine learning. Each test was conducted twice and the one with the best number was used.

First, the Pixel 7 had a score of 365.

Pixel 7 Pro is 366.

Next was Pixel 8 with 438.

Although the Pixel 8 Pro was lower than the Pixel 8, it still beat the previous model by a wide margin with a score of 435.

◆4: Summary
The results are summarized as follows. These results confirm that the Tensor G3, which is used at the heart of the Pixel 8 series, is a legitimately evolved chip with improved performance across the board from its predecessor, the Tensor G2.

CPU GPU machine learning
single core multi-core
Pixel 7 1450 3762 6660 365
Pixel 7 Pro 1489 3747 6684 366
Pixel 8 1676 4224 8590 438
Pixel 8 Pro 1775 4574 8605 435
