◆ Deep connection between Wonder Festival and DAICON FILM
The Japan Science Fiction Convention , where science fiction fans gather from all over the country and hold various events, has been held every year since 1962. The Japan Science Fiction Convention is held in various places every year, but the one held in Osaka in particular is nicknamed 'DAICON', and seven DAICONs have been held so far. And the opening video played at the opening ceremony of DAICON 3 , the third DAICON, was produced by Hideaki Anno, Takami Akai, Hiroyuki Yamaga, Toshio Okada, and Yasuhiro Takeda. was a team. This team later called itself 'DAICON FILM' and became the parent organization of Gainax, an animation production company.

At the same time, this DAICON FILM was sold by General Products, a science fiction shop run by Mr. Okada. General Products is a company that started by selling garage kits at DAICON, and the event started by General Products as a result of this is the Wonder Festival, which is a spot sale of garage kits. In other words, there is a deep connection between Wonder Festival and DAICON FILM.

◆ Official collaboration project between Wonder Festival 2023 [Summer] and DAICON FILM
DAICON FILM produced a variety of video works, but the animation that was shown at the opening ceremony of DAICON IV at the 22nd Japan Science Fiction Convention is particularly well-known. In particular, the image of a beautiful girl in a bunny suit riding a sword and flying in the sky is an homage to various video works. At the 'DAICON IV 40th' booth, painting samples created by four artists were exhibited, which were made into figurines of a scene in which a beautiful girl in a bunny suit rides a sword and flies through the sky.

And what the heck! What surprised me when I saw this was the example of Mr.

Shinya Suzuki , a freelance figure coloring artist. It has a clearly strange face, a magic circle in its right hand, a sword in its left hand, and the smoke from the sword flying in the sky has changed to look like tentacles.



According to Mr. Suzuki, 'For 40 years, it is a figure that has continued to grow in order to win against all characters.' The paint on the face seems to absorb light very well, so even if you look into it, you can't see the unevenness of the face.

The number of swords was increased from 3 in the original kit to 4, and even more sinister patterns were engraved.



At the venue, a kit created by Mr. Grizzly Panda was sold for 20,000 yen including tax, limited in quantity and limited to the venue. In addition, a soft vinyl kit that reproduces the Daikon-chan figure created by Mr. BOME in the past was also on sale.



Next to the paint sample, a collaboration commemorative illustration card between Wonder Festival 2023 [Summer] and DAICON FILM by Takami Akai, a member of DAICON FILM and a founding member of Gainax, was displayed.



In addition, a special booth called 'DAICON FILM Grand Exhibition' was set up, where valuable items such as original drawings and setting materials were exhibited, and DAICON FILM's works were actually screened.
